I think I have done pretty well keeping off the subject of our arid fields but it is very hard to take when the news is all about the cricket at Edgbaston getting rained off, rain at Wimbledon, 30mm rain at Hinckley....so just keeping you up to date...about 1mm here yesterday. There is some good news though, the pigeons have gone off to plague someone else so the plants are starting to get away. And the crops that we would always irrigate anyway are making use of all the sunshine: runner beans are ready much earlier than in the last few years.

Tender young runner beans. Although not a stringless variety we aim to pick them young so that they are always tender, throughout the season which will last until the first frosts.

And it really is plum time. Everyone seems to have enjoed the Herman over the last two weeks, next up are Heron, Opal and Prolific

This is how we pick Heron plums for the wholesale markets, if they were any riper they would not survive the journey.

But for our direct customers they can be much riper and therefore sweeter.
