Some people driving passed might wonder what we're up to but I think those who live in Evesham are getting used to it now. Earlier in the winter there was chat on social media sites about 'northern lights' etc but now people know that growers are using these lights to economically extend daylight hours to keep plants growing. Particularly useful this week as the weather has been so gloomy.
As well as these baby tomato plants we have kale, cabbage and broccoli. We don't have the space or time to grow the bulk of our brassica plants so buy them from a specialist nursery in Lincolnshire but we do grow small batches to add variety and get things going early.
on Saturday - Winchcombe, Woodstock, Charlbury, Headington, Reading, Malvern and Stroud
on Sunday - Summertown, Ascot and Caversham
The spring greens are not ready to start harvesting yet but they are ready for rapid growth when the weather warms up or at least the sun shines; these dull days make the unheated polytunnels less advantageous
